Bio-Engineering

gm foodsNews stories relating to the scandal which is GMO’s and genetically modified foods (“GM Foods“). While not all the outcry against them may be justified, the manner in which GM foods are forced upon us is simply scandalous and highly politicized. It’s another clear example of abuse of power.

Oct 18, 2011 – Monsanto’s genetically engineered alfalfa was planted 2 years before it was legal to do so and it contaminated natural alfalfa fields, which cannot recover. It is a one-way street. Sep 10, 2011 – USDA Chief Tom Vilsack, an advocate of genetic engineering, is looking for ways to compensate organic farmers who suffer GE contamination of their crops. [That sounds good but really is bad news because it means there is no plan to stop GE crops, only to pay damages. Damages will be for contaminated crops only, not health damages to livestock or humans, which the government will rigorously deny exist. Will the money to pay these organic farmers come from Monsanto and other companies that profit from patented seeds and pesticides? though i atarecippe your argument i have to disagreethere is a world of difference between selective breeding and genetic engineeringand without unbiased long term study there is no way to predicted the potential heath risksi do however agree that agriculture in general as well as fish farm have a myriad of problems which should be focused on to find real long term solutions not genetically engineering life to bypass said issues
